I am happy you're here! As a National Academy of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer, my passion is helping women in all stages of life gain strength and confidence through customized functional workouts combined with traditional weight training. It's never too late to invest in your health. I am here to guide and support you along your journey. I believe in a holistic approach to fitness that includes not only exercise but also nutritional guidance and support. With a focus on individual needs, I strive to create an environment where women can achieve their fitness goals and cultivate a lifetime of health.
About Me
I am Christina Bernstein. I am a Kansas City native, currently residing in Leawood, Kansas with my husband, David and our three boys. Health and fitness have been a passion of mine from a young age.
Following High School, I completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, and a Master of Arts in Managment. I worked in the corporate world for years, never truly fulfilled with my career. In 2007, we started our family, and I was blessed to stay home and raise our boys while doing community work for multiple special education schools and youth-centered organizations in the Kansas City area.
At the age of 47, I competed in my first fitness competition. This truly helped to ignite a passion inside me, the same passion I had for physical fitness from an early age. As an athlete through childhood and high school, three postpartum weight loss journeys, and currently perimenopause, I truly understand a woman's body and the struggles we encounter day to day that make self-care challenging. This experience inspired me to help women cultivate a genuine excitement and devotion to physical fitness and nutrition. I'd love to help you live your healthiest life.
Services
Personal Training
I offer one-on-one personal training, and small group training tailored to women's unique needs, focusing on strength, cardiovascular health, stability, flexibility, and core work. Every workout is designed according to your goals and ability. My priority is to ensure correct movements and form in order to avoid injury and to keep your joints healthy over time.
I absolutely love strength training and want to educate women on the importance of functional exercises, weightlifting, and muscle maintenance as we age. Weight training has been shown to improve metabolism and weight management, enhance balance and stability, strengthen bone density, improve sleep, provide energy, along with improved mental wellness.
Along with the benefits listed, the American Heart Association recommends at least 2 days of strength training combined with 150 hours a week of steady-state cardiovascular work or 75 minutes of high intensity exercise. These recommendations are for heart health and longevity.
I offer in-person, one-hour personal training sessions at Fitness Alliance in Overland Park, Kansas. Depending on scheduling and location, I offer the possibility to train at your location, along with online training options. Message me for options.
Nutritional Guidance
I do not offer a one size fits all diet program. My approach to weight loss is thoughtful and realistic, customized to your lifestyle, while focusing on gradual changes for sustainable long-term success. If you're sick of the endless weight loss battle, I can help.
Through three pregnancies I gained a combined 184 pounds on my 5'3" frame. The struggle was real! I will give you the tools you need and guide you along the way. I will calculate your caloric needs according to your individual metrics and goals. I believe the best way to gain control of your diet is by calorie tracking with an online food diary. You have to know exactly what you are consuming in order to understand why your body is or is not changing. Your food diary will not only educate you on accurate serving sizes but will give me a reference so that I can help you continually get results. I will educate you on healthy sources of protein, carbohydrates, and fats, along with providing healthy meal and snack ideas, and example meals that fit within your calorie allotment. I will hold you accountable with a weekly weigh-in and give you the support you need along the way.
For those interested in tracking macronutrients, I offer DNA based customization to truly take the guesswork out of your macronutrient profile. This is a great resource for anyone wanting to get stronger and gain a firm and toned physique by changing your body composition.
